VOICES of the VETERANS on SULEKHA : GIRDHAR GOPAL and Dr NARASINHA KAMATH

Dear Naval-ji,

It was really very innovative and thoughtful of you to focus the lime-light on two fellow-writers of sulekha and review their works. This would definitely help such outstanding pieces of writing get the due reader-ship that they truly deserve!

I must confess that I had not read much of Girdhar Gopal-ji’s postings earlier till you directed my attention through your review to his fantastically eerie short-story. It had the quaint touch of bizarreness associated with a typical ‘superstitious’ Indian village, that was reminiscent of R.K.Narayan’s novels. The part where the protagonist comes face to face with the panther (which winks at him!) was nerve-chilling. My hats off to GG-ji and I will look forward to his writings in sulekha, thanks to you!

The other gentleman needs no introduction to me! I had ‘grown up’ in sulekha reading his ‘musical’ blogs. Everything that Dr. Kamath writes about, whether articles on old Hindi songs or technical expositions of classical music or travelogues or spiritual writings or even short stories, will all have ‘music’ running as a central thread. My own passion for old Hindi songs brought me very close to him through our interesting exchanges. Now we have such a close bond that though I don’t normally joke with elders to me, I take liberties with Dr.Kamath doing lot of ‘hansi-mazaak’ with him, as if both of us are still in our teens! But then who says Dr.Kamath is getting old! He is getting younger and romantic day by day (Kyun, Dr.Saab, Sahi kahaa na?!). His ‘young-at-heart’ outlook often gets reflected in his singing (it required some cajoling on my part to make him sing in sulekha!) and short stories. This particular short-story brings out the best of all his talents like his dedication to music, his sensitive and emotional nature, his flair for romance, his narration skills and above all his deeply spiritual temperament. Another good friend wanted to give him the title of ‘Pitamaha of sulekha’! But I would prefer to call him ‘Dev Anand of sulekha’ considering his ever-green youthful enthusiasm, dynamism and creativity in ‘musical’ blogging!

As for you Naval-ji, you deserve no less praise for writing such wonderful reviews amongst your other highly interesting blogs. It makes me want to write a short-story myself good enough to be-fit your review. But at the moment, I am bankrupt of ideas for a story! Hopefully I will make an attempt one of these days to write one!

Best wishes to these two ‘golden gentlemen of sulekha’ and also to you, Naval-ji for many more happy years of blogging in sulekha and regaling us!

Regards,
S.V.Nathan.

Romancing in the Monsoon----"Bheega Bheega Pyar Ka Samman----"

OMG, This is shocking! Anyway it is great to know that 'our' Shamshad begum-ji is alive and well!
Dr.Kamath cannot be blamed at all. Anybody would have got misled by such a news item being distorted by the PMG (MR - I mean Military Retd.! Maj. Gen Ray!) Maybe Major Saab had a penchant for shooting before aiming!

Anyway, all's well that ends well! If Shamshad-ji were to read all this, she would perhaps sing a line from her own song in 'Babul', but with a slight twist:
'Afsana kisika ban gaya afsana mera!'!!

Regards,
S.V.Nathan.

My favourite song, Gopal Sir, but I have not been able to open your last few audio-files including this one. Did you change the recording format or something?

‘O Mehbooba—‘ – Mukesh and me!

Thank You, Dr. sundeep for the prompt 'echo'-like feedback!
Sangam was of course one of S-J's best! It had  the two classic combinations of Shankar-Mukesh in "Dost dost na raha' and Jaikishen-Rafi in 'Yeh mera prem patra'. 'O mere sanam' was of course 'Shivaranjani' (learnt the name of raaga from Dr. Kamath!) at its best!

S.V.Nathan.

FIVE SECRETS OF CREATION : BY GREAT SPIRITUAL MASTER SRI SRI RAVI SHANKAR

Dear Dr.Kamath,
It was a wise practical 'reminder' to re-orient ourselves to our 'real'-selves from the traps of 'maya' in our day-to-day life!
Exactly like you, I also did a basic course in 'Art of Living' in Mumbai, but though I am not an ardent follower of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar-ji, I do feel that lot of things he says makes some very good sense. I was even doing 'Sudarshan Kriya' regularly for some days, but as 'Guruji' himself implies, if we do any routine activity over a period of time , we lose its 'sensitivity' . Then we stop enjoying it and start feeling a strain! It makes me wonder whether regular routine time-structured habits are good or bad! I guess, healthy habits are good provided your mind is also fully 'conscious' of the benefits of what you are doing, while you are doing it!
The flute was soothing and blissful!
Best Regards,
S.V.Nathan.

"Romancing Indian Style !"( Romantics Pl. Show Yourself Up- - -)

Dear Kalpitaraj,
Oh! Do I belong to the 'Romantic' clan? Sounds interesting, but am little confused about the rules.(Real romantics are little slow on the uptake, you see) . I will await your blog and take it as an example.

Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas Sung by Sablu Mukesh

Impeccably sung, Sablu-ji, Really! It was just perfect! I have nothing else to say except that you are becoming  'perfecter' and 'perfecter' with each song! This time your voice sounded more confident and effortless than before. Lagta hai aapka recent fever aapki awaaz-par aur ek achha asar chodke gaya! Just Joking! Do stay healthy and 'sureela' always like this!
Regards,
S.V.Nathan.
