Dear Friend SUBRAMANIAM VISWANATHAN

Yes, 'Deewar' film was a trend-setter liike 'Sholay' and 'Sangam'. After this film, the pair of 'Amitabh' and 'Shshi Kapoor' have given a few good films.
Yours is a descriptive article.

Dear Sablu-ji, I knew you will be away for a long week-end and so I was 'badi betaabi'-se 'intezaar'-ing your comments! Sablu-bhai, Aap ke liye mere matinee show kabhi bhi khula hi rahega, chhahe aap zaldi aaye ya der-se! Aap to mere matinee show-ke Chief Guest hain, aur Chief Guests aksar late aate hain! – Just joking! I fully understand your constraints and your comments are always double the joy for me after the long wait! Sablu-ji, I am so glad you found my review enjoyable. I am delighted you have added one important piece of dialogue in the film that I had missed – the scene where AB reminds Iftikhar about the shoe-shine boy, when he throws money on table and adds--- 'Main aaj bhi pheke huwe paise nahin uthatha'! Had the line been just 'Main wohi ladka hoon', then the whole punch in the scene would have been lost. That was the beauty of Salim-Javed's imaginative dialogues! My 'dil' now 'dhoondhta hai''fursat'-ka time to listen leisurely with eyes closed and ears open to your rendering of another fabulous song of Gulzar which is any day 'Mere' aur 'Apne'-bhi any-time favourite song! So hope to get back to you soon with my comment! Thank you so so so much for your wonderful comments and recommendation of my blog! Regards, S.V.Nathan.

Nathan-Bhai,

Mere Pass Motor Hai, Gadi Hai, Bangle Hai, Bank Balance Hai,

Tumhare Paas Kya Hai?

Mere Paas Nathan-Bhai Ka Matinee Show Hai.

Kya Blog Hai Aur Kya English Hai Janaab

Maan Gaye Mere Ustaad Aise Surveer Aur Script Writer Ko Mera Hazaroon Salam Bhi Kum Hoga.

Gustakhi Maaf, Late Se Aane Ke Liye Khair Aap To Achi Tarah Wakib Hai Mere Majboori Se. To Mereumeedon Anusaar Aap Mujh Se Khafa Nahin Hokar Balki Bara Hi Besabri Se Mere Comment Ki Intazaari Kar Rahen Hoonge.

Now coming to the subject matter, it’s really marvelous and fabulous contents on the film Deewar as your terrific matinee show as composed and depicted by you. Nathan-sahab kaise baatoon ke mein kitna interestingly aapke blog ko padta hoon jaise sachmuch mein cinema hall mein ek baar matinne show dekh raha hoon. In fact, I have already seen this movie many a times on Big as well as small screen lekin mujhe Nathan Theatre mein matinee show dekhne ka jo maza milta hai uska jawab nahin. Hats off to you  for your brilliant creation. I would say this was threshold for Amitabh’s film  career after Zanzeer which changed the destiny of Amitabh and Yash. Before this he was about to leave the battle field when he was struggling in the Hindi cinema.

I wish you come up in Bollyhood as a new script writer which very seriously I am wishing. And I am sure you can be on top. Good luck in this endeavor. Also I enjoyed reading more additional info on Amitabh movies and your favorites stars too. You have also depicted very beautiful pictures of the movie which is eye-cathing.

The Dialogoe like:

Mein Aaaj Bhi Fekhe Paise Nahin Uthata

Mer Paas Maa Hai and I have selected some brilliant piece of info from your blog which appealed me a lot to read in your blog when I assume the same about movie.

A desperate Amitabh explodes and tries to belittle his brother and his profession. ‘A rented house, a set of uniform, Do waqt-ki roti, , he mocks, ‘Look at me, I have a banglow, car—‘ etc etc, he boasts of his ill-gotten wealth and questions ‘What do you have?’ An unfazed Shashi throws the clinching line to a stunned Amitabh -  ‘Mere paas Maa hai’!

This time a defiant Amitabh climbs up the stairs of the Shiva-temple for the first time to have a one-to-one face-off with the God! ‘Bahut khush hoge tum aaj’!—His taunting monologue opens with fire and brim-stone demanding to know from God why his mother is being punished for his crimes.

Ainh! Tumhare co.-ke paas kya hai?’. The younger brother replies ‘Mere Company-ke paas ISO certificate hai’!!

To Nathan-Sahab ab prem se jayee aur mera gana Koyee hota jo aap ka purana farmayeesh hai prem se suniye.  Actually I firstly thought to render the song hawaoon pe Likh de bot unfortunately that song was not at all matched on my guitar chords. So I changed my decision and recalled your favorite number Koyee hota also my friend rajee Kushwaha famayeeshed me to render this number. Hopefully, in the coming future I will try to render hawaoon pe likh do. I am doing research on that particular number to match on guitar chords.

Regards,

Mukesh

Dear Dr. Kamath and Dr. Bhagwat,
Sorry for making my response brief and common to both of you. This is because I am typing this from my work-place (and so optimizing the misuse of office facility!). Actually I have nothing much to say now. Both your reviews of my review have left me totally speechless! You two are very generous and with two such supporting 'Doctors' by my side, I feel ekdum fit to keep writing! Your words are like a strong tonic to me!
So all I can say now is Thank You, Thank You, Thank You and Thank You to both of you!
Regards,
S.V.Nathan.

Dear Sir, Just like the Big B finally "arrived" with Yashji's Deewar, so too you have arrived big time on the crticis scene! NO JOKING, SERIOUSLY, THIS PIECE RATES AMONG THE BEST EVER WRITTEN IN RETROSCPECTION ABOUT DEEWAR! This being my most favourite film along with Sholay, I must have watched it at least 30 times and read reams about it in newsprint and various web sites. No where have I come across, such lucid, entertaining , yet incisive style of writing about a film. Congratulations sir, for coming up with this superlative masterpiece.

My Dear Dr. Nathan Saab (Doctor of Filmi Literature), Aap Ne Is Tarah Se Mujhe Uthayaa Ke Aap Ka Ye Marvellous Blog Padh Kar, Raat Bhar So Nahin Sake. Bahut Shukriya, Badi Mehebaani. Wah Wah Kya REVIEW Likha Hai Phirse Aap Ne. Ye REVIEW hai Ya Filmi Leterature Ka Doctoral Thesis Hai. Aap Ne Ek Over Me Poore Six Sixers Lagaaye. Wonderful! Wonderful! Dhanya Ho Aap Aur Dhanya Ho Aap Ka Computer Mouse, Ke Jis Se Aap Ne Ye Powerful REVIEW Likha. Maan Gaye Ustaad! Aap To Ab Guru Von Ke Guru Nikle! I simply loved your REVIEW. You have accurately re-enacted the whole movie and pushed me back in 1975 era of Hindi Films. I can never forget those 2 dialogues "Mere Paas Maa Hain" and "Bhai, Tum Sign Karoge Ya Nahin". Actually, the most credit goes to Salim-Javed who wrote outstanding dialogues for the movie and of course no one else other than BIG Bacchan could do the Justice to Salim-Javed dialoges. AB's acting was simply superb. No wonder after this movie, with Angry Young Man image he made it to the Top which he has retained it almost until today. No exaggeration here. All other star cast of DEEWAR also did perfect justice with their right piece of acting. I agree with you that the songs interrupted the story and like you poined out this movie like Kanoon and Ittefaq should have been made without any songs and then it would have sounded even more better. Anyways, Deewar is a History now and you have done full justice to Deewar with your REVIEW just like Big B did it to Deewar through his marvellous acting. Now I am looking forwrad to your next hit REVIEW "Chhotisi Baat". I am sure you are going to score quadruple century once again. Thank You Sivaram-Ji!
I just received your comment fresh and hot because I think you are still on line at this moment!
You are very right about 'Deewaar' being quite ahead of times in showing the 'live-in' relationship! But it was also conservative in 'punishing' her in the script by eliminating her! But it fitted very well in the script. Was that 'Kya kehna' or 'Salaam Namaste'  when you were referring to Priety Zinta's film. Anyway now-a-days anything is accepted in Hindi films!
Great feeling to know you enjoyed my review!

S.V.Nathan.

NATHAN-JI There is never a dull moment in your Matinees!I was wondering whether there is a Deewar has developed between you and your computer as you had announced this matinee a few weeks back! Please keep us guessing for future Matinees!Just Chhoti Si Baat!! What can I say about this Matinee ! It was as thrilling as the movie itself.Wow!You had given so much detail as I went on nostalgia of this mega movie. You had covered every nice thing about this movie leaving us stunned! Just want to add one thing unique about this movie. This movie came in early 1970 when India was conservative on relationship. This is the first movie I think where the hero Amitabh has live in relationship with Parveen Babi.Only Villains were permitted this privilege in Bollywood! He thinks about marrying Parveen Babi after she is pregnant! This is revolutionary concept in Bollywood those days .I am very surprised how Yash Chopra made this daring move and this was very well accepted by the Indian Society. That is why I consider Deewar as the stylish movie of those times. Even Yash Chopras recent movie with Preeti Zinta(I forget the names of new movies pardon me)he is still not showing as live-in relationship like west as Chopras thought the mainstream audience may reject it.How did they do this 35 years back!!A movie ahead of his time Mere Paas Maa Hai ...is the best diagalogue ever written for Bollywood by Salim javed!I could remember the whole audience clapping whenever this dialogue comes on screen anywhere! Deewar was the wall Amitabh broke of the romantic hero image required by Bollywood hero and created a new Angry Young man image with which he excelled for next 2 decades The 2 songs of Deewaar although not required was good melodies penned by RD Burman Hats off to you on this wonderful review which kept us at the edge of the seat!! Let these matinees continue! Best Regards Sivaram
